Although not part of the original proposal, SASAC introduced a two-week inception in 2017 as an early welcome to the programme for students for students who have been selected as recipients of a SASAC scholarship. Over the two weeks, the students are provide them with a basic introduction to Systems Analysis as a discipline. As such, the Inception takes over and fulfils some of the aims originally prescribed for the Systems Analysis Capacity Development that is hosted in the middle of the year. At the Inception, students are informed of the ambitions of the SASAC programme, their obligations to it, and are addressed by local and international speakers with experience in the application of Systems Analysis as a framework. Supervisors are invited to attend the first three days of the Inception, providing them with the opportunity to help shape students’ research proposals accordingly. The Inception is hosted by UWC and Stellenbosch University over late January, early February.
