PROFILE
Phyllis comes from the city of Gweru in Zimbabwe. She completed her BSc in Industrial and Applied Biotechnology in 2012, and her BSc (Hons) degree in Microbiology (2013) and her MSc degree in bioresources systems at UKZN (2017). For her master’s degree, she developed an understanding of the complexity of the sugar industry in order to make more informed decisions concerning the throughput of sugar milling factories. For her PhD she will develop a decision support tool to seasonally determine a more environmentally friendly and feasible integrated waste management plan for the Harare municipality in Zimbabwe, while considering the important economic and social issues currently affecting the waste management system. The study will contribute towards making the Harare municipality more sustainable by ensuring that proper planning and more informed decisions are made in waste management. Phyllis enjoys hiking, reading, travelling and cooking.
